Goodbye MacBean we loved you

For some of you, you know who MacBean is, for those of you who don't, you have missed out.  MacBean was a dog that we pulled out of a Kentucky shelter that was overcrowded.  Mac was slated to be euthanized.  He was heartworm positive.

When I got to the shelter that day, they brought out the skinniest, dirtiest, mess of a dog.  You could see every bone in his body, he had diarrhea all over his back end, and he was too weak to jump into my car.  Even with all of that, he was such a sweet, patient guy.  He seemed to realize that life never gave him much and he was OK with what he got.  A sweeter dog you will never meet.

I figured he would die on the car ride up to northwest Ohio, where his foster was waiting for him.  His foster is an amazing woman who willingly takes in these really sick dogs and nurses them back to health.  It is a gift, and without people like Janet, rescues could not survive.

Janet got Mac through his heartworm treatment, and worm treatment, and urinary infection treatment, and on and on.  He started to get better.  She took him on her travels.  He got to see Canada and hang out on the beach.  He got to go to New York.  He met a lot of people and charmed every single one of them.  Not bad for a dog from kentucky.

The best was when she sent me the picture of MacBean in the dryer.  Priceless.  He just crawled in there like that was supposed to be where he hung out. There was just something about Mac.  You can see in his pictures what a gentleman he was.

Mac continued to improve and was able to get neutered.  He got adopted by a really nice family who were excited to have him as part of them.  Mac had it made.

Not for long.  Mac got sick.  Prostate cancer.  We had to make the decision to put him to sleep this week.  It doesn't seem fair.  But it is not for me to say what is fair, we can only accept what is.

Mac left this world with a family that loved him around him.  Mac also had many people mourn his passing.  He touched so many of our lives, and brought out a tenderness and mutual caring in one another.

Mac did NOT die alone and scared in a shelter with no one to care, and that is the gift that we could give to him, while he gave us so much more.

Mac's family have a lot of vet bills.  Any donations would be appreciated and will be sent to his adoptive family to help them out.  Please donate through the rescue.  Any amount will be appreciated.
