Here is what Poppy's foster mom writes about Poppy:
Poppy is an 12 year old registered Setter who is absolutely beautiful and has a regal elegance about her. You would never guess her to be more than 5 or 6 years old. She is very affectionate, always smiling and wagging her tail. After years of repeated litters due to an overzealous breeder, she was taken to a crowded shelter to be euthanized. When OESR came to her rescue, she had a skin condition from lying in her own urine. She underwent surgery for some tumors, was spayed, had an infected tooth removed and her teeth cleaned. She came through with flying colors. Poppy is far too sophisticated for toys, but delights in romping on the floor. We love our walks in the park together where we live in the moment, dream of the life that waits ahead and forget about haunting days of neglect and abuse from the past. Poppy enjoys the scenic views during car rides in her retirement and is ready to enjoy the world.
Most likely, Poppy had very little socialization with other dogs or cats during her life. She would thrive as an only child where she gets all of the attention and doesn’t have to be bothered by younger brothers or sisters. Right now, her 4 yr old ES sister is desperately trying to tag along and Poppy will have no part of that. Poppy has had a taste of what the good life can be and is embracing it 100%. She wants to be doted on and loved….all of these are a first for her.
Since she came to the rescue, a little over 4 months ago, she has blossomed into this amazing, trusting setter, so thankful to be loved and cared for. All she hopes for is a forever family to love her as much as she promises to love them. Poppy is like a fine bottle of wine, only gets better with age! If you are thinking about adopting, please consider Poppy, she has so much to give and she would love to give that to you.
