Adoptable Dogs

These are dogs that have been taken in by our rescue.  They are in all different stages, i.e. just arrived, in foster care and ready to go, etc.  Please be aware that we try and evaluate our dogs in a foster home for a couple of weeks, so that we are able to make the best determination on what kind of home would be best for them.  If you are interested in a dog, you may need to be patient until they are fully evaluated and vetted.  This is for your benefit as well as the dogs, as we want our placements to be permanent ones.  Please be aware that our role is as an advocate for the DOG, and making sure they go to the right home where they will thrive.

All of our dogs are vetted before adoption.  They are given any needed vaccinations, spayed/neutered, wormed, heartworm tested and treated if positive.  Any medical or behavioural issues are attended to, or disclosed to any potential adopter if the treatment is ongoing. We have provided orthopedic surgery, cancer surgery, behavioural assessments from the director of the behavioural unit at Ohio State University.  We provide top notch vet care for our dogs.  Our vet is Northstar animal care.  We are proud of our vets and their reputation in a city that has one of the top veterinary medical schools in the country.  All of our vet care is based on sound, solid research for being necessary.  We do not subject our dogs to any care that is NOT recommended by our veterinarians.

You NEED to read the adoption page before filling out an application.  The page will pop up when you hit the link to take you to the application.  THERE IS NOW A 10.00 FEE per APPLICATION payable via paypal link this fee is non-refundable and does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt.

We do not guarantee adoption to anyone.  We are very thorough about our adoption process, as we are committed to sending our dogs to homes where they will stay and be loved and provided for for the rest of their lives.  That is our only goal.  Adopting a dog is a big commitment of time, love and money.

Freckles is a sweet 2 year old boy that was dumped at the shelter with his brother bandit.  He is very scared at the shelter and we are desperately trying to find a good foster home for these boys, either together or separate.  They will most likely need to be trained to live in a house, which setters pick up on very quickly.

If you would be interested in fostering please fill out the adoption application for Freckles and click "Foster"  there is no application fee to foster.  Thank you.

Bandit is a 2 year old boy that was dropped at the shelter with his brother Freckles.  They are very scared in the shelter and we are desperately hoping to find a foster home that can take one or both boys in.  They are 2 years old and very sweet.  Will need to be taught the ways of living in a house.

If you would be interested in fostering a dog in need for OESR, we ask that you fill out the adoption application and click "foster"  there is no application fee to apply to foster.  Someone will contact you from the rescue, and discuss fostering with you.

Mia's family is unable to accomodate her needs.  She needs a home with someone who is home most of the time and who can devote a lot of love her way.  We are bringing Mia into the rescue to try and help her find the home that is the right fit for her and what she needs.
Maggie is a 5 year old setter that wound up in a shelter because her owner said she kept barking when he decided to leave her outside full time after living her whole life in a house.  Imagine that.  She has a lot of energy and acts like a puppy still.  SHe is very playful.
How handsome is this dog?  Wow. Abraham is approx 5 years old.  He does fine with other dogs and cats.  He likes to play with toys, and fetch tennis balls.  He is a friendly guy, and his personality and playfulness is starting to come out more now that he is feeling better from his respiratory infection.
Asher has a sad story, and yet ultimately a wonderful story.  A kind person saw him at a rural shelter and contacted different breed rescues for help.  It was finally decided he was an English Setter and I was sent the email.  This dog was in pathetic conditon.  Covered in his own filth, he had obviously been in a kennel outside and simply left.  He was skin and bones.  39 lb. when he should be closer to 60.  Click on Asher for the rest of the story......
Gemma is a lovely tri-colored female approximately 5 years old that was an owner turn in to a shelter in Kentucky.  Our volunteers happened to be there at the time and she was snatched up within moments of arriving at the shelter.  She has been bred repeatedly, but despite that is a sweet and cuddly girl.

Darby O'Gill starts his heartworm treatment on Valentine's Day!  He has been on some medicine to help this go easier on him and he will be ready to go.  He is feeling much better and his silly goofy side is really coming out now!  His foster mom says he had his fur English Setter sister in a full nelson!  Who would have thought?

After he is treated for heartworm he wil be getting lots of bloodwork and tests, and then he will be headed to OSU for surgery to remove his cataracts.

Darby is with us for the long haul!  :)

Dayton is an adorable little guy that found himself out of time and scheduled to be put down in a shelter where he arrived as a stray.  He is approximately 7 years old and is a sweet natured boy.  He does well with other dogs, and will make someone a wonderful companion.  He deserves a fresh start.  :)
Connor is a pocket setter, weighing in at around 28lb. He has come a long way in his foster home!  He looooves his foster dad, but also likes to play with the other dogs in the house as well.  Now when foster dad comes home Connor does a whole body wiggle.  He is healthy and getting happier every day.  He is a shyer dog and will need a gentle touch.
Jack was an owner surrender. He is 6 years old, house broken, and in need of lots of love and attention! Jack and his brother were surrendered to us because their previous owner couldnt give them the love and attention they deserve. Jack is a very sweet setter who seems to get along with everyone.

We pulled Betsy out of a shelter in Kentucky several months ago.  She had obsessive compulsive disorder.  We sent her off to a wonderful foster home with lots of room to run and we sought treatment for her at Ohio State University.  She is doing much better and is managing well with her medication.  She loves to be with her people, and loves to run and play outside.  She has crate anxiety, and would do wonderfully in a home that has lots of time for her.  SHe loves to snuggle on the couch. She has recovered to the point that she will actually make a great dog for someone who has the time for her and who wants a constant companion.

Hi everybody!  I am Ben!  I really want to be a good boy!!  I am pretty young about 1-2 years old and still learning the ropes.  I am friendly and snuggly and energetic. I walk well on a leash, I am fine with cats, and I am good with other dogs, but would be fine as an only dog as well.  I am a typical young setter so an experienced family with high energy breeds is a must.
Fergus is doing well in foster care.  He is a young boy, 1-2 years old and came from a situation where he was very insecure and frightened.  He is doing well now that he has some stability and kindness in his life.  He will need someone who is sensitive to the fact that setters are, well, sensitive.  He is a good boy and very affectionate. He is housebroken, loves affection and is a typical setter boy.

Falcon is great with other dogs, knows sit, beg, lay down, and is very athletic. Estimating his age by his teeth, he appears to be between 2 and 4 years old. He is out of the naughty puppy phase for sure, but still has plenty of energy. He loves to sit in the yard and watch the birds and squirrels, Ive caught him pointing more than once.

Colleen is a nine year old female English Setter who is very healthy and active for her age, as is typical of field setters. If you don't believe us, CLICK HERE to see her in action at the dog park.  She is a very sweet dog who deserves a home that can offer her a place for her to stay for the rest of her life.  Colleen is so sweet and funny.  She immediately goes into "point" mode whenever the door is opened.  She stands frozen in the doorway looking for something that is moving.

Opie is doing wonderfully in foster care.  He has a wonderful foster home who has helped him to blossom.  Opie is probably over 10 years old and we are happy we can provide a safe and loving home for him in his elder years.  He is happy and such a handsome boy.  His tail doesn't stop wagging.
